What do I need to know, or be able to do, before taking this course?
The GCSE is a single qualification which focuses on developing practical skills within a particular material area, allowing students to manufacture high quality outcomes. you will learn about commercial processes and careers in related industries, as well as developing core transferable skills, such as collaboration and communication.
What will I learn?
GCSE Design and Technology covers a wide range of topics exploring technology, materials, design processes and making processes. You will also have the opportunity to study specialist material areas (timbers and plastics) in greater depth. Students will gain awareness and learn from wider influences including historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic factors. Students will get the opportunity to work creatively when designing and making to apply their technical and practical expertise.
How will I be assessed?
AQA is the exam board and all students will evidence their work within a portfolio of evidence amounting to 50% of their overall mark. This includes a student made practical outcomes. The final written examination taken in Year 11 is 50% of the overall GCSE and taken in the Summer Term of Year 11.
