This is an exciting course that will offer you the chance to explore the art of drama, theatre and acting, while developing crucial personal, social and life skills you will need in the future. You will explore theatre and stagecraft in a practical way from the point of view of a performer, director, designer and an audience member. Students have the opportunity to devise their own work, as well as studying numerous plays through practical workshops, bringing ‘page to stage’.

How is the course structured and what exam board do we use?

We follow the AQA GCSE course.

What skills do I need to be successful in the subject?

To succeed on this course, you need to be an excellent team-player and have superb creative, listening and problem-solving skills. You must enjoy performing, have self-discipline, motivation and strong organisation skills. Drama is a fantastic subject if you want to undertake a course that is both practical and theoretical. The written work is merely an extensive of what we study practically in class, but please understand the written work is crucial for success and has to have your full commitment in order to pass. Rehearsal of practical work is completed in lessons and after school, so time management and a willingness to rehearse in your own time is essential.

How will this help me prepare for my future?

GCSE Drama is popular with all employers and colleges, as it shows that you have developed your personal, social and life skills. Self-expression, confidence, creativity, initiative and communication are all developed in Drama. This subject is a good choice is you are considering any career path where teamwork, creativity or communication are at the heart of the job, such as; the police, teaching, armed forces, design, retail and of course any aspects of performing arts or design. Drama is all about helping you develop transferable skills which you can take into ANY career.
