Food Preparation & Nutrition is a subject that involves lots of practical work - cooking and experiments. The cooking skills are varied and are a great preparation for cooking complex dishes independently. Nutrition provides the main focus of the theory work. Each nutrient is studied in depth. There is a clear link to food science.
What skills do I need to be successful in the subject?
Good time management and organisation
A keen interest in food and cookery
An interest in nutrition and a solid understanding of science
How is Food Preparation & Nutrition structured?
You will be assessed on your theory knowledge in an exam at the end of Year 11. This exam accounts for 50% of the GCSE grade.
You will also complete two pieces of Non Examination Assessment (NEA) which together account for 50% of the GCSE.
NEA 1 is based on Food Science
NEA 2 is based on real life scenario and involves a practical exam
